Mr. Ahmad Shakir Mohd Asri

Gold Award for the Most Inspiring Leader

Ahmad Shakir Mohd Asri is currently KWAP’s youngest Head of Department at the age of 38.

Shakir first started out in KWAP as a Portfolio Manager in the Equity Department managing the international equity portfolio. With his strategic mindset, he was able to expand KWAP’s international equity mandate in various aspects such as portfolio management process, research, support and digital systems – all in just a year and a half.

From this feat, he was chosen as the ideal candidate to be seconded to KWAP’s foreign subsidiary, Prima Ekuiti (UK) Limited, based in London, England. There, Shakir, at the age of 32 then, was the Principal Officer and was responsible for KWAP’s pan-European equity portfolio while also expanding KWAP’s investment coverage to new asset classes in new geographies.

After 4 years abroad, Shakir repatriated to Malaysia where he was tasked to work in KWAP’s Real Estate Department as a Vice President. This provided him the avenue to lead an investment team to build and manage KWAP’s real-estate portfolio across various asset segments including commercial office, retail, logistics space, in both domestic and global market including expansion plans into new markets in the United States and East Asia.

He was then promoted to his current role as the Director of KWAP’s Real Estate Department. With a new leadership opportunity, Shakir was proactive in honing his skills to lead and KWAP witnessed the progress of his dynamic leadership style and strong ability to remain level-headed no matter the circumstances at hand.

Currently, Shakir leads a department of 21 employees who can attest to his collaborative efforts that are unassuming but essential. With the ability to inspire and motivate his team, he works effectively cross functionally, further contributing to organisation-wide transformation initiatives.

As a certified Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) holder, Shakir’s exceptional leadership skills, vision, and dedication has propelled him in his career and continues to expand his capacity to deliver results, following his win as the “Most Inspiring Leader” award at the recent Employee Experience Awards 2023.
