KWAP Launches Jana MyPesara Microfinancing Initiative to Empower Pensioners

RM20 million allocation helps pensioners build stronger retirement resilience in line with Ekonomi MADANI

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 February 2026 – Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) [KWAP] today launched Jana MyPesara, a targeted microfinancing initiative designed to empower pensioners to pursue income-generating activities and strengthen their financial resilience during retirement.

Launched by YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Minister of Finance II, Jana MyPesara reflects the Government’s commitment under Ekonomi MADANI to promote inclusive growth and “raising the floor” by enabling pensioners to pursue income-generating activities and participate meaningfully in economic activity, enhancing their financial resilience in retirement.

YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said, “The RM20 million allocation for Jana MyPesara in Belanjawan 2026 signifies a strategic shift toward a more resilient social safety net for pensioners. As Malaysia’s population ages, this initiative adopts a ‘whole-of-nation’ approach—leveraging economic stability and deep collaboration between government agencies and private partners to ensure the support is both targeted and sustainable.”

KWAP’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Hajah Nik Amlizan Mohamed said, “Our pensioners have contributed years of service to the nation, and many still want to remain active, independent, and economically engaged. Yet for some, the barrier is not motivation, but access to the right support and capital. Jana MyPesara helps address this gap, grounded in discipline and strong governance.”

Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM), the programme’s implementation partner, is a trust body incorporated under the Trust Act 1952 and Malaysia’s longest-running microfinance institution, with almost 40 years of experience and a nationwide network serving over 320,000 borrowers. Under Jana MyPesara, AIM will manage the delivery of microfinancing to eligible pensioners, supported by its established processes such as structured training, mentoring, the widely recognised Sahabat system, group-based lending and regular monitoring. Leveraging its extensive infrastructure and proven operating model, AIM enables the programme to reach participants efficiently, providing close guidance throughout their entrepreneurial journey, and supporting sustainable income generation in the retirement phase.

Jana MyPesara is designed based on KWAP’s survey findings, with nearly 60 percent of respondents indicating an interest in entrepreneurship during retirement, with additional income cited as the top reason. With KWAP currently serving more than 810,000 pension recipients across Malaysia, and the figure set to grow as Malaysia moves towards an aged nation by 2048, Jana MyPesara reflects a timely step to support pensioners in staying economically active and better prepared for the years ahead.
