KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 30): Pension fund Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) or KWAP has appointed Abdul Hakim Amir Zainol as its new chief financial officer (CFO), with effect from Nov 12 this year.

Abdul Hakim — who has over two decades of financial and strategic management experience, predominantly in international markets — was previously with mortgage corporation Cagamas Bhd group, where he was CFO and chief business officer.

According to a KWAP’s press release, Abdul Hakim’s global exposure spans financial control, treasury management, strategic planning and regulatory compliance, which in turn equips him with a broad perspective on financial governance and transformation.

Other than Cagamas, Abdul Hakim also held senior leadership roles in the UK, including at C Hoare & Co, the oldest bank in the UK, and Aldermore Bank.  He commenced his career with KPMG and Ernst & Young, specialising in audit and assurance.

KWAP chief executive officer Datuk Nik Amlizan Mohamed said of the appointment, “Abdul Hakim’s wealth of experience in strategic financial leadership and his solid track record in driving performance and governance make him an invaluable addition to KWAP’s leadership team. Abdul Hakim is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, the Association of Corporate Treasurers (FCT), a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), and holds a degree in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics as well as a Sloan Master’s in Leadership and Strategy from London Business School.

As CFO of KWAP, Abdul Hakim will spearhead the organisation’s financial strategy and stewardship, driving fiscal resilience, transparency and alignment with KWAP’s long-term mission to build a sustainable retirement future for Malaysia’s public sector employees.
