We take pride in having our own proprietary research to provide us insights into companies that we invest in. Previously run as a separate department, now, the research function of the Research Department was absorbed by the Equity Department to enhance the investment process and information flow. Despite the integration which took place in late 2008, research analysts continued to retain their full autonomy in conducting analysis and giving recommendations. At the same time, the integration has improved coordination between analysts and portfolio managers resulting in efficiency and effectiveness in the investment decision making process.
Our research analysts utilize the latest state-of-the-art technologies to aid and facilitate their research undertakings. Bloomberg, Reuters and Datastream are some examples of the systems that our analysts use when they carry out their research on companies assigned under their coverage. Our analysts develop their exclusive earnings model based on specific investment assumptions to help them project earnings forecast of these companies.
In addition, our team of analysts maintain a set of ‘Model Portfolio’ that serves a guide for portfolio managers to benchmark against. Each weight assigned to a particular stock under the model reflects analyst’s bullishness or bearishness, a view derived from their analysis on the stock’s fundamental and its sector outlook.
Accuracy of analysis as well as speed of communication form an integral part of our research. With the aim to be ‘first in-the-know’, analysts and portfolio managers are equipped with Blackberry devices to enable them to receive continuous updates on the market while ‘on-the-move’. |
